AI Search form
AI Searching harnesses the power of advanced transformer-based LLM models specifically trained for patent data. This cutting-edge technology enhances both semantic precision and recall, ensuring highly relevant search results tailored to the user's query. Unlike simple keyword matching, AI semantic patent searching comprehends the semantic meaning, relationships, and concepts within patent documents.
PatSeer's AI Searching comes with the flexibility to run the search either focused on the keywords mentioned in the paragraph or on the contextual understanding of the paragraph, this setting is called as the Context aware settings.
Context Aware - Enabled (High)
- Once you paste a Paragraph or Number in the given box, you will see a toggle button that will help you to set the Context-awareness to High for better results.
- The context awareness allows you to switch the contextual comprehension depth of the semantic engine from Low to High.
- In most cases, setting this to High gives you more relevant results.
Context Aware - Disabled (Low)
- Even with the setting at default value (Low) the results are far better than the older semantic search.
- Setting this to Low may work well for paragraphs that contains specialized, infrequent scientific terms such as chemical or plant names. In such cases lexical (keyword) relevance is given a higher weightage over semantic (contextual) relevance.
Creating an AI search query either by text or number.
By Text (paragraph / free text)
- Once you Paste the paragraph then based on the requirement you can switch the context aware to high or low as discussed above.
- While creating the search you also have an option of limiting your search to options such as Application, Priority & Publication Years, Classifications, Corporate Owners, Legally Alive Families and also Priority Countries.
- Limiting free-text searches to claims only can be useful option for focused results in case the text you are providing is also a claim or want to focus more on similarity to the claims of the results

- Also within the settings you can chose the number of records to be displayed on the results page. You can choose to see 200,300 or 500 records at a time.

- You have the option to get relevant results for your search based on the AI score percentage. This means you can select a specific AI score threshold, and the system will retrieve records that will match the selected criteria
- After running your search on the result page the records will appear as one member per family (SFAM / Simple Families) and also are scored based on the relevancy to the Searched Paragraph.
- On the results page you will also be able to review the pasted free text and instantly see the applied limitations by hovering over the "AI Search" label at the top left of your results page.
- On the result page the records will be sorted based on the Relevance and you would not be able to change it.

- To understand why a result scored higher you can use the KWIC option to view snippets from the full-text of the record. You can click on the AI score itself to view the paragraphs one by one or use the KWIC option. The matched paragraphs are underlined with shades of green based on their relevance to your input.

- To navigate through the KWIC you can use the Next and Previous arrows that appear when the cursor is hovered near the highlighted text, for navigating to next and previous snippets.

By Patent Number
In the AI search form under the Patent Tab you can search for Similar Patents and also look for the prior art to create an Infringement OR Invalidity Analysis
- When searching by patent, you can now refine your AI search to specifically focus on claims related to the given number when generating similarity, invalidity, and infringement searches.
To create Search follow the steps below:
- Paste a Number in the box and click on Look Up
- Then you can use the context aware option to get the most relevant results to the type of search you are doing, be it the Similarity search, Infringement search or Invalidity Search
- While doing a similarity search you can paste upto 5 numbers at once separated by a comma.
- Here, you can also restrict your query to Corporate Owner (This will be helpful if you want to concentrate on any particular Assignee), Legally Alive Families or Priority country.
- For Infringement and Invalidity Searches you can also add a date cut-off based on Earliest Application Date or Earliest Priority Date.
- Here it will also allow you to set your own custom priority or application cutoff dates.
- If you are doing an Invalidity search then the records having priority date previous to the record in question will be shown on the result page.
- If you are doing an Infringement Search then the the records having priority date later than the record in question will be shown on the result page.
AI Search – View Predicted Classes, Companies, and Inventors
Easily view the predicted classifications against your invention description from the AI search page itself. The View Predictions option appears next to the search form once you enter your paragraph. Simply select the field to view the top predictions against it. You can also copy/export the predictions from the table with a single click.
Once you have run your search query on Context aware enabled / disabled, in the search history it will be seen as shown in the image below:

Note: Please enter a brief description of the invention that you want to search. For better results, please input at least 3-4 lines of text (preferably 1-2 paragraphs) that capture what the invention does, its benefits and what parts/elements it must include to help achieve that objective
You can also enter your invention disclosure in its original language to view matching results. All major Latin and non-latin languages are supported. (Swedish, Spanish, Russian, Portuguese, Latvian, Korean Japanese, Italian, German, French, Finnish, Estonian, Dutch, Danish, Chinese(Trad.), Chinese(Simp.))
Note: Note: We do not use ChatGPT or any OpenAI service in our AI search module. We use the Generative Pretrained Transformer that we have custom-trained on patent data for a higher search relevance. So you as an user can be rest-assured that their search requests to the AI search module, do not go outside our servers and especially not to any third-party downstream processors.
Note: For the subscriptions other than PatSeer Pro X, the context aware is not enabled. You can Contact us to get a free 3 day activation of the Advanced AI capabilities on your account
Note: The record limits of 300 and 500 for the AI Search will only work in PatSeer Pro X and AI editions of PatSeer. For other (non-AI) editions, the options will be visible but after clicking on it, you will see a pop-up and you can contact us if you wish to get a trial.
